Famed improvisor Keith Johnstone once observed that when a troupe is afraid to grow, its best performers will drift away. In one instance the entire troupe drifted at once. Founded in 1998 as part of National Comedy Theatre's ComedySportz franchise, the group grew in experience and knowledge to the point that the limitations of the format were no longer challenging or satisfying. The group left the league in 2002 to form a group unlimited in their artistic choices. Experience ![]()
Mission Statement: Say funny things and do funny actions in front of a live audience.
You know what it's all about. If you come down to the U of A Student Union on a Tuesday night, there's only one thing you could be there to see - the Charles Darwin Experience. Having the distinction of being the University of Arizona's only all improvisational comedy group, these dudes do not mess around. Come see their next show to see what I'm talking about. You'll be impressed. I guarantee it.
The Charles Darwin Experience performs every Tuesday night at 10:15 in The Cellar (as low as you can go into the cavernous Student Union Memorial Center). Did I mention it's free? I just did.
Coldtowne formed in March of 2005 from members of two Comedy Conservatory student teams in New Orleans, Louisiana. For several months, they performed weekly at one of the Crescent City's premier theater venues, Le Chat Noir, becoming key players in the city's budding comedy improvisation scene. After Hurricane Katrina, five of ColdTowne's eight members fled to Austin, Texas, living together, begging for food together, and building a group mind that borders on codependence.
Whether playing strangers stuck in an elevator, dysfunctional family members at a wedding party, or aimless aging monsters reminiscing about the crying of children, the performers of ColdTowne relish the awkward games people play. Using a single audience suggestion as inspiration, ColdTowne creates a long-form improvised one-act play that incorporates the absurd, the mundane, and rockstar characters that will make your head explode. ![]()
According to legend, Comedy Corner began in 1979 as a weekly variety show that solicited talent from the student body through a weekly open auditioning process. Early shows included musical acts, juggling, ventriliquists, and even a person jumping over audience members on a bicycle. A small collection of students began submitting sketch comedy routines to the talent show, and quickly became a crowd favorite. Soon the sketch group was being featured weekly, and eventually other talent acts were dropped altogether. Thus, Comedy Corner became a sketch/Improv comedy troupe. Featuring Bob Fisher ![]()
Noone knows what the extravaganza is. What happens when you take a member from every troupe and don't tell anyone who they are performing with and than throw them onstage?
We can only hope it will be an EXTRAVAGANZA! ![]()
Galapagos was formed in the Fall of 2003 and is devoted to performing longform improvisation based in strong ensemble work and characters & scenes rooted in truth. Our improvisation is often in the form of Harold, a structure and philosophy of improv developed by Del Close at ImprovOlympic in Chicago, the Deconstruction, the Armando, and include longform structures that we have developed ourselves. Whatever the specific form is, a single audience suggestion serves to inspire our explorations.
Galapagos is Bill Binder, Amy Carpenter, Jose Gonzalez, Jon Jahrmarkt, Mark Jordan and Shane Shannon. ![]()

In cultivating a home for the radically absurd and the outright insane, The S-PTC decided to shed the shackles of form and structure for an Anarchic breed of freeform improvisation. Fast cuts, long intangible scenes and general chaos abound. Anything can exist on this stage, from talking carots reminding you why your mother doesn't love you to divorce counceling turned into a mediation love square. This is a show that may leave you wondering why you ever listened to what you were told."They" told us, "don't go to crazy town," unfortunately for "Them", The S-PTC lives there. |
